Harry Perry

Original Works And Arrangements

Harry was born in the mid 80's and brought up on the music of Ravi Shankar, Vaughan-Williams and The Corries. After learning the basics of music from the Trumpet he may have accidentally discovered Rock music and taught himself all the key band instruments in an attempt to become a latter day David Bowie. This love of music continued with his musical studies at Bangor University where he focused on Popular, Classical and Electroacoustic forms of composition.

Harry left Bangor with a 1st class honours degree and the Parry-Williams prize for composition, he was also lucky enough to have pieces workshopped by Ensemble Cymru and the BBC National Orchestra of Wales. Needless to say, by this point Music was the only path Harry could see for himself so he went on to continue his studies with an MMus in Acoustic Composition at Goldsmiths College, London. He is currently researching his PhD in Composition at Bangor University.

Harry has studied under Guto Puw, Pwyll ap Sion, Andrew Lewis and Roger Redgate. He composes in many styles and is influenced by all kinds of music. Previous works include and hour long song cycle based on the deconstruction of 'Spitfires' by Chris Wood, a non-ballet called Ballerine and a cycle of David Nash poems for Soprano.

Harry is currently working on a book of piano music but is available for commissions.

It varies for everybody; we are all different with different perceptions of the now and different threads of history tying us down by our opinions and tastes. I personally believe that the wider we listen the greater the opportunity to split from these threads and experience something honest and pure. You see, music ...

David Bowie and Me - part 2. Where Are We Now?

1.Outside. That's my favourite. It seems a bit odd after all these years of studying and discovering to settle on one of the most inaccessible albums he made. Thinking about it now, I really don't know what I particularly like about it. It's my favourite. I just know. Of course, housing my favourite song ever probably helps and it does has the most rewarding coda in 'Strangers When We Meet'. Still, weird choice man. Weird choice. But that's the magic with Bowie, you can't quantify your appreciation ...

Dreamtime ?/11/12

I've been lax with these. I've got so bad that I forgot when I had this one, only that it was in November before my birthday .                                    ?/11/12 Mum was chatting to a bus driver whilst I stood next to her in the rain. It was night and the streetlights gave the setting a sepia tint. She keeps chatting away ...
